Productive

There's an article that I've read by Roshan Thiran where he listed out 3 traits of combination to achieve productive actions:-

  • Focus - the ability to zero in on an objective and see the task to completion
  • Energy - the vitality that comes from concentrated personal commitment
  • Learning - the ability to correct past mistakes and improve oneself

When I read and understand the descriptions word by word, I suddenly agreed that these traits totally sum up all what it takes to be productive. But there's another element that comes before we do any of these 3, which is called Reflection.
Reflection simply means contemplating, taking time to think or ponder about a situation or etc. Let's see how reflections play a role in these traits.

When you take your time to reflect:

  • You can identify the distraction that can caused you losing your focus. It gives you the ability to re-focus and get back on track.
  • You can find out the reason and self-motivate yourself. Thus, create passion that automatically creates energy.
  • You learn from reflecting on experience-not learn from experience. All learning can come only through reflection.

People may tend to disregard this process and will not find time to reflect. But as eac
h day we build our lives, career and family, aren't we going through our life in auto-pilot? OR Are we doing it with focus and energy? And improving ourselves by learning from our mistakes?

The best leaders take their time to balance contemplation and action while most of the leaders are biased towards action. They take their time daily to re-energise themselves and focus through reflection. This ensure us to be effective daily and be more committed and purposeful. Let's plan an objective to focus on daily and to observe every time we act. Then we reflect to determine the next productive action. Like one life cycle-ongoing.

P/S: "Real work" can only be done right when you
know where you are going and have the energy to get there.
